Why we like this krill oil
The catch
We have long been looking for a krill oil that meets our requirements. The krill is caught in the Antarctic. Then it is processed immediately, still on the ship. Moreover, no chemical solvents are used to extract the oil. The oil is extracted enzymatically.
Because the krill is processed immediately after being caught while still on the ship, each package can be traced back to the exact catch using documented GPS data. Pretty cool.
Plus, this krill oil comes from sustainable fisheries. The oil is both MSC (THE MARINE STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL) and FOS (FRIEND OF THE SEA) certified.
The oil
The oil is deep red in color because it naturally contains astaxanthin. The astaxanthin is present as a phospholipid. The DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids are also present as phospholipids.
The krill oil naturally undercuts the European limits for heavy metals many times over. Krill is caught around Antarctica, where water quality is exceptionally high. In addition, krill is at the beginning of the food chain. Therefore, there is no accumulation of heavy metals.
Finally, with krill oil there is usually no fishy aftertaste or fishy belching.

I have long been using krill oil because it's one of the "cleanest" sources of Omega 3 but I could not find a good one which would also come from a sustainable manufacturer. I am a long-term Eichenhain client because I am happy with the high-quality of the supplements they sell. When I saw that they have krill oil, I decided to try it, too. I like that the oil is very fresh (the freshest you can get, unless you are on the ship yourself :) ). I also started giving it to my 14-year old dog, who has cancer and who needs to take Omega 3. I am very happy with the product and can recommend.
